(Un)fashionable futures
‘How can we buy fashion if we can’t buy food?’
In 2024, we face many challenges – from the cost-of-living crisis to the rapid warming of the planet. We have seen the world pivot into a post-pandemic state, the challenges that came from this, and how it has changed forever. The fashion industry continues to grow, but where is it headed? (Un)fashionable Futures project asked students to consider the future of fashion through a dystopian lens.
Consider the concept that destruction comes positive activism- groups of unheard and marginalized people demanding that if they can’t get a ‘seat at the table,’ they will make their own. As the new generation of emerging designers, students write the rules with optimism at the core, to build their own ‘table,’ and make decisions that have impact.
In collaboration with the British used clothing company who provided waste landfill fashion materials for this project s concepts &manifestos consider a ‘zero-waste future’. All materials required to realize fashion garments, Fashion Space/ 3D Outcome were thoughtfully and/or ethically sourced in line with the project brief.
