Innovation Through Global Collaboration
With Pearl Academy (India), Heritage Crafts (UK)
Within India and across the world, indigenous design methods are being identified as effective tools for sustainable and circular design.
The project highlights highly skilled Indian textile craft practices, alongside heritage crafts from the UK that are identified as ‘endangered’. Craft communities across the world face different challenges, and this project involves researching those issues and using your collective design skills to find ways to innovatively celebrate and support traditional craft. Given the imperatives of sustainable and circular design, students have worked collaboratively to identify key concerns, and design outcomes to raise awareness of the relevance of traditional skills and knowledge to our contemporary world.
