A Score For The Fullness of Perception

This commissioned essay on Niko Luoma's recent body of work Ark | Qui sets out an exploration of the leading Finnish Conceptual Artist and Photographer's exploration of light and time through a series of long, accumulated exposures onto single sheet negatives. The photographs, which shift in form from diagrammatic renditions of the photographic boundary to visualisations of the moment of photographic exposure, permit, the essay suggests, an unravelling of the deep time of all photographic images, which harks back to an early experiment of Luoma's, thinking through the disappearance of time in photographs.
