Many Schools of Architecture offer "live" learning experiences to their students. Such initiatives usually seek to engage students with the contingent realities of developing architectural projects, be they the cultures and practices of teams, the tolerances and affordances of making and craft, or the negotiation of aspirations and sensitivities found in networks of clients, stakeholders and collaborators around a project. If the aim is to create experimental educational environments inclusive of these 'live' dynamics so that they may be learned from and that 'non-traditional' (yet vital) architectural skills can be rewarded within architectural education, then what are the assessment practices that can be used to recognise and reward that learning inclusively? This workshop explores and compares the current practices at three different Schools of Architecture, reflects on the challenges involved in delivery and speculates as to how assessment practices can be made even more inclusive in live, engaged learning environments.
