This paper examines evidence of 'recycled consumption' and the 'recycled consumer' in the UK and elsewhere. Consumption of recycled products is the vital final link in the cyclical production and consumption system expressed by the idea of 'closing the loop'. 'Closing the loop' in the UK requires a significant increase on current consumption of recycled products. The contributions that design, in its various forms, can make are considered.
