In the 1970s, the concept of smart cities has emerged, "when urban contexts adopted a digital configuration that focused on technologies and non-material structures embedded in the physical space of the city". During the last decade, the concept of smart cities has also emerged as a fusion of notions about how ICT might promote the functions of cities, improving their efficiency, advancing their competitiveness, and producing a new way to realize and analyse problems of poverty, social deprivation, and poor environment.
