Stan is a two part photographic contribution to Momentary Glimpses an Anthology on Contentedness. This publication, edited by JJ Chan,
conceived as a collection of individual works resembles both an anthology and an exhibition in book form. It is an anthology of new and existing works on contentedness, memory, and identity, spanning the sentiments of live/laugh/love and tainting them from a diverse range of perspectives and contexts. My contribution includes first a photographic work originally submitted to Amateur Photographic Magazine in 1951 by my Grandfather, Stan Howe, together with the editors feedback at the time. The feedback is complimentary but technically critical, highlighting a missed opportunity in timing that would have helped to better capture the idyllic familial scene. Further on in the publication is another photograph, also taken by Stan Howe, this image captures the moment a plane at an air show crashes to the ground in flames whilst a mother pushing a large pram flees the scene in the foreground. Contentedness is pulled through each of these media fragments to reveal the tension of this state and its slipperiness across time.
