This paper is a transcription of a talk prepared for the Writing Space project at the University of Winchester in 2008. Originally it was handwritten and accompanied by recordings on a Dictaphone, slides and video clips, and now it has been slightly adapted to accommodate a different format. It orients itself in relation to ten diverse artists, philosophers and critics, in a contemplative essay that reverses one of the starting points of the Writing Space discussions, ?Is narrative a problem??, to ask, ?Is problem a narrative?? The author suggests that we may problematize the relationship between ourselves and our narratives, and he discusses the ways in which the text might perform this problem, puzzle or prepared failure.
