A crucial aspect of urban design is the social responsibility to engage meaningfully with communities and the public at large, responding to and protecting the interests of society. However community engagement is not commonly included in urban design course curricula. And with good reason. This article reflects on the trials and tribulations of integrating a live community project into the MA in Urban Design at The University of Huddersfield, as well as the relative successes of the venture.
