ISEA16 Hong Kong was a peer reviewed exhibition of electronic art curated from nearly 700 international entries. The curators, Harald Kraemer, Kyle Chung & Daniel C. Howe, were inspired by the "Conjunctions and Disjunctions" of Octavio Paz, and Italo Calvino's "Six Memos for the Next Millenium". In homage to these works they situated the International artworks within a framework of 'dialogues and confrontations' and 'responses and reflections' to develop a productive discourse across four International exhibition venues: the Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre of City University, the School of Design at the Polytechnic University, the Chi Wah Learning Commons of the Hong Kong University and Connecting Spaces of the Zurich University of the Arts.
R<Connecting Senses is an exhibition and a laboratory co-curated between Connecting Spaces (HK) Artists in Labs Programme (CH) and ISEA 2016 (HK) . Oscillating between kinetic mechanics, material collages and poetic acoustics, a selected group of artists shares an interest in experimental concepts and transdisciplinary encounters. The result is an exhibition-turned-laboratory enriched by discussions, interactions and performances. Artistic practices, aesthetic strategies and situated knowledge are exchanged between the artists and then shared with ISEA participants and exhibition visitors.
