Textiles in Practice
Rowanna is a practicing textile and print designer and has worked in the creative design sector for over 20 years. From her studio Drawn Surface, Rowanna works on private commissions, commercial projects and also hand prints small runs of printed natural fibre cloth, woven locally. Rowanna’s work has been featured in national and international press such as The Sunday Times, Style Magazine and Vogue. Brands and companies that Rowanna has worked with include the BBC, BBC Film, Flim 4, Channel 4, MGM, Thinman Films, Bunch London, Redbull, Selfridges, London Design Festival, Wunderdog Magazine, Yeyeah Records (Netherlands), Sea Changers (NGO), LIVE.IT Earth (Canada) and collaborations with the French based design studio Second Sitters.
Rowanna’s knowledge and research area is focused on using sustainable natural fibres and water based printing processes, whilst developing knowledge about potential negative impacts from polymer based textile microfibres entering water systems. Her interest also is engaged in developing accessible information for a wider audience regarding local circular and regenerative economies.
Rowanna is an MMU Carbon Literacy Champion and is part of the Design Department team working across courses to embed Carbon Literacy into curriculum and student learning.
Rowanna is the Disability Coordinator on the Textiles in Practice BA Hons course. She studied at the University of the Arts London gaining a BA Hons in Surface Design, and Masters PGCE from the University of Huddersfield.
