Pattilyn is dedicated to cultivating a globally engaged, culturally inclusive learning environment that empowers students to thrive in diverse settings. With a strong focus on decolonising design education, Pattilyn embeds international perspectives into teaching and encourages students to challenge dominant Western frameworks. Committed to driving meaningful change, Pattilyn inspires students to address critical global challenges and create positive social, environmental, and cultural impact that transcends borders.
Some of Pattilyn’s research explores the interplay between soundscapes in nature and the built environment, using generative software to speculate how architecture and urban spaces might harmoniously coexist with natural ecosystems. This research reflects Pattilyn’s broader commitment to fostering innovative, sustainable approaches to design that respond to global issues
Pattilyn is Lead Transnational Education Link tutor for various international educational partners including The British University Egypt and Instituto Marangoni, where she has co-written several design programs and successfully taken them through to validation.
She leads on international collaboration with specific partners to develop and implement policies and procedures that enable the University to assure itself about the quality and standards of the courses offered in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University.
Pattilyn is committed to fostering a globally engaged, culturally competent learning environment where students can thrive in diverse settings. By embedding international perspectives into the curriculum and building meaningful partnerships, Pattilyn works to provide quality international opportunities for both students and staff.
She was program lead on Unit X "Reframing Experience" Collaborative Online International Learning project (COIL) with level 5 interdisciplinary design students from Manchester Metropolitan University, level 5 Interior Design students from The British University in Egypt, Dutch Design and Architecture firm, Zoetmulder, Stockport Borough Council and Future Everything contributing to research activities for Design Factory. Students worked on parallel briefs aimed at culturally activating Stockport town centre in the UK, and Korba, a site in Cairo, Egypt, acting as “international critical friends” throughout the design process.
She has since acted as Jury member to other COIL projects with Woxsen, University in India.
Pattilyn actively supports initiatives that enhance the university's international profile including travelling overseas to curate and support exhibitions and pop-up shows, strengthen research partnerships, and connect with global alumni and other key international stakeholders.
Through collaboration with international partners and MMU services, Pattilyn aims to ensure international students are well-supported in their transition to degree-level study, and home students become culturally competent, contributing to a richer, more inclusive academic community.
Before MMU, Pattilyn gathered varied experience in the creative sector across different design disciplines in interior design, graphic design, furniture and lighting before heading up a design and marketing team for a leisure group in Yorkshire. She was program leader for Interior Design for the Open College of Arts, part of University Creative Arts, and worked on multiple charitable programs, including Bauhaus Fundamental at Bauhaus, Dessau with Dr. Judith Winter, Future Builders with Roundabout, Alexander McQueen Special Projects, CADs Sheffield, and Unity Works.
