Interior Design

Joe is a designer, researcher and educator. He is currently Lecturer and Second Year Lead on the BA(Hons) Interior Design at Manchester School of Art, MMU. He formerly held academic roles at INTO University Partnerships, Southampton Solent, and York St John's University, with guest lecturer collaborations at British University of Egypt and New York School of Interior Design. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

As an established commercial Interior Designer, Joe designed for several award-winning practices, working with global brands such as Asics, Radley, Heineken, Manchester City FC, Chelsea FC and P&O Ferries. These were paired with domestic educational projects and a range of hospitality clients to give him a diverse portfolio. Joe continues to work with commercial clients on a freelance basis.

Joe’s research took seed during his time gaining a Permaculture Design Certificate at Wa Samaki Ecosystems, Trinidad in 2016. This continued into his MA Interiors thesis at MMU (2023). He was recently selected to participate in the Architectural Association’s Design + Make Summer camp at their woodland campus, Hooke Park (2024), following which he exhibited research on Localisation (Interior Educators Conference, 2024).

His current research and teaching focusses on the integration of circular, regenerative and permaculture design principles within the built environment.
