The Greater Manchester House of inter-national Cultures (2016)
The Greater Manchester House of Cultures is part of the collaborative research project "Healthier Together-Exploring public perceptions of Greater Manchester Devolution" co-authored by Gina Cavan (Faculty of Science and Engineering)Claire Hamshire (Faculty of Health, Psychology and Social Care)and Brigitte Jurack (Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
During summer 2016 we worked together with residents, local community groups and art gallery staff from Greater Manchester Museum and Gallery sector to explore their perceptions and experiences of Greater Manchester Devolution. The objective of the project was to determine local people's uptake of schemes to promote healthy living in urban parks and their utalisation of cultural activities and venues in Greater Manchester.
Greater Manchester House of Inter-national Cultures is the title of a publicly displayed billboard, visualising the exciting potential of creating an inter-connecting and inter-national place that can showcase and celebrate the unique story of long standing citizens and newcomers to Greater Manchester. The accompanying exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery, as part of Manchester Social Science Festival, showcased a copy of the billboard and all other outcomes of this research collaboration.
