Alumni RE:VISIT Manchester School of Art
26 March 2018
Graduates enjoy a night of film, music, discussion and reconnection
Alumni from across generations and disciplines returned to Manchester School of Art for RE:VISIT, a night of reconnection, celebration of achievements, and discovery of new and exciting work.
The event took attendees back in time with an exclusive screening of ‘Roxette’, a film created by art students in 1977, introduced by alumni Malcolm Garrett and Jocelyn Fiske, who discussed the film and what Roxy Music meant to their generation of students.
This was the first time ‘Roxette’ has been publically shown in Manchester, after previously been screened at Tate Liverpool in their ‘Glam!’ exhibition.
The evening was also sound tracked by legendary DJ Dave Booth, who was a resident in the Roxy Room at the infamous Manchester nightclub Pips.
The School also welcomed back recent Three Dimensional Design graduates, glass blower Jahday Ford and Joseph Hillary, who currently have work on display at Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
They dicussed their latest collaborative project that pushes the material boundaries of glass using innovative techniques.
By recording the sound of Jahday blowing into the blowing iron and using digital techniques the convert the visual sound wave into a 3D mold, Jahday and Joseph connect their work with the individuality of the maker. The duo’s conversation with the Head of Design at Manchester School of Art, Joe McCullagh, explained their process of making the work and explained how the support of the School helped them create their final collection.
‘I am delighted to see our alumni thriving in such a diverse range of disciplines across the globe, RE:VISIT provided us with a unique opportunity for us to connect with our alumni communit, and to share with them our recent acitivty and upcoming developments,’ commented Penny Macbeth, Dean of Manchester School of Art.
‘As a School, it is important for us to connect with those who become our best advocates when they graduate, through their achievvements in the creative industries and beyond. And it has been a pleasure to meet so many of them at RE:VISIT.’
