Fine Art trio to exhibit at The Manchester Contemporary

Three graduates from Manchester School of Art’s MFA Fine Art course will exhibit their work at The Manchester Contemporary art fair. 

The Manchester Contemporary is an annual art fair that is now in its tenth year and is set to feature over 30 curated exhibitors at Manchester Central from 27-29 October with a preview night on 27 October from 5-9pm.

The Manchester School of Art graduates exhibiting their work are:

Jenny Eden 

Jenny’s paintings investigate the act of painting iteself through colour, mark and fracture.

By investigating decision-making within painterly activity, her work draws on theories of transitional phenomena and potentiality with a view to understanding the directions taken by the painter in the act of painting. 

Currently, Jenny is studying for a PhD (by practice) in Painting at Manchester School of Art. She has recently exhibited work at The Cornerstone Gallery in Liverpool, The Portico Library in Manchester and PS Mirabel, also in Manchester.

Katerina Eleftheriadou 

In Apostate (pictured above), Katerina takes a critical stand towards the tradition of painting. The large-scale raw canvas, addressed as a ready-made, is employed by the artisit as a double-sided medium that creates a unique juxtaposed side,with no front or back. Soaked in oil, the piece explores the potentiality of both the medium and the act of painting, allowing for new interpretations and experiences.

Katerina has previously shown work at The 7th Annual Visual Arts Exhibition in Eleusis (Greece), Caustic Coastal in Manchester and Tate Britain in London, as part of ‘Source Spotlight Display - Texture and Collage’ curated by Tate Collective London. She has an upcoming solo show at EX14 in Dresden, Germany.

Francesca Neal 

Francesca’s work (picture above - Nos Felfed by Francesca Neal) explores the experimental process that responds to painting itself, its materiality, the pictoral space and the viewers’ visual experiences. Francesca makes paintings about paintings while reinventing a set of painterly concerns about a sense of light, gesture surface, colour composition and the activiation of pictoral space.

Francesca’s recent exhibitions include solo shows at Lyon and Turnbull Gallery in London and Manorhaus in North Wales, as well as group exhibitions in Castle Field Gallery in Manchester and Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.

The space in which these pieces will be displayed has been curated by Patrizia Costantin, who is a PhD research in Curation Practice and an associate lecturer at Manchester School of Art.
