A FASHION student at Manchester Metropolitan University has been named a British Fashion Council scholarship winner.
BA (Hons) Fashion student Jacob Weir is one of eight students from across the UK to be selected to receive the Education Foundation BA Scholarship 2017.
Jacob specialises in Menswear and was praised by the judges for having a very commercial eye and great business sense which will stand him in good stead for the future.
The judges said: “Jacob’s personable and thoughtful nature, combined with his intelligence, will help him succeed whichever path he pursues in the industry. Jacob’s collection allies streetwear and functionality well. He is very skilled and creative.”
Since 1988, the British Fashion Council has provided scholarships to help support the young talents of the fashion world on their way from education through to making it in the industry.
All scholarships have been awarded to contribute towards living expenses and support the costs of creating their final collections, ensuring that gifted young designers have the opportunity to learn the needed skills regardless of their financial situation.
Previous recipients include Manchester School of Art graduate, Aitor Throup, who received funding in 2004 and went on to launch his own acclaimed menswear company and act as creative consultant at G-Star. Graduate Cavan McPherson was also awarded the scholarship last year.
