Trio take top award in factual category

A TEAM of student filmmakers has won a top Royal Television Society (RTS) award.

The RTS North West Centre held its annual Student Television Awards this month, with the award in the Factual Category going to Manchester School of Art students Danielle Swindells, Joe Wilson and Thomas Payton-Greene for ‘Resort’.

The film looked at life behind the Golden Mile in Blackpool, and judges felt it captured a sense of the reality of living in the resort with some charming, and at times, tragically sad characters.

The film was directed by Danielle, who graduated with a BA (Hons) Filmmaking last year and is currently studying for a research MA at the School of Art.

Third year BA (Hons) Filmmaking students Joe Wilson and Thomas Payton-Greene were responsible for sound design and additional cinematography.

Joe Duffy, Programme Leader for BA (Hons) Filmmaking, said: “It’s great to see the well-deserved recognition of Danielle, Joe and Tom’s hard work, creativity and imagination with their film ‘Resort,’ as it won the RTS NW Student Award for best Factual film.

“Resort’s sophisticated and mature approach to storytelling is testament to the talent and excellent filmmaking skills of these three young filmmakers. They’re a credit to the Filmmaking course and the Art School and this signals the start of what will be their long and successful careers as filmmakers.”
