Staff and students prepare for Vogue's Fashion Night Out

THE much anticipated Vogue’s Fashion Night Out hits Manchester in a flurry of fashionable hemlines and on-trend accessories tomorrow, and MMU’s fashion pack will be right in the middle of the action.

The annual celebration of fashion and shopping, which actually takes place during the day as well as in the evening, first took place in 2009.

This is the first time the event has taken place outside of London.

Students and staff will be taking part in the event to showcase the wealth of creativity that can be found at the University.

New label launch

Senior research fellow Andrea Zapp will be launching her label AZ at the Love Fashion: Manchester showcase with a catwalk show at 6.30pm.

Working with scenes from her global travels, Andrea Zapp has translated urban views, rural panoramas, and objects of culture and curiosity into prints for her hand-made silk shift dresses with stunning results. Each piece is linked to a unique digital code, enabling the wearer to view and experience the original imagery and its location via GPS online.

The project is being carried out with Barbara Shepherd from Hollings and Ian Gibbs from the Centre of Enterprise, and production support from Aileen Jefferson (Hollings) and Zoey Brown (School of Art).

Andrea said: “This KEIF funded cross-faculty spin-out research is an amazing opportunity to take a media and design product to a consumer audience and professional market, but at the same time it allows creative ideas and experiments to be the main drive for this exciting journey.”

Discover the Department of Apparel

Prospective students hoping to make a career in the fashion industry will also be able to find out more about courses offered in the Department of Apparel.

The department will be hosting a stand in Exchange Square where students considering their university choices can find out about courses in subjects such as Fashion Buying and Merchandising, Fashion Design and Technology, International Fashion Promotion, International Fashion Business and Fashion Design Innovation.
