Acting students impress at the Globe

Pair appear as part of annual theatre festival
TWO students from BA (Hons) Acting at MMU impressed a packed audience at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, in London, as part of the Sam Wanamaker Festival.
Sarah Allen and Joel Davidge performed a scene from The Revenger’s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, directed by David Shirley, head of the acting course at Manchester School of Theatre, at MMU.
Joel and Sarah spent the weekend at the Globe working with the company’s voice and movement specialists before taking part in the event on Sunday afternoon at 4pm.
David Shirley said: “As the Duchess and Spurio in a scene from Cyril Tourneur’s The Revenger’s Tragedy, the pair were greeted with delight by a packed playhouse who were enthralled by the scene”.
Amazing opportunity
After the event, Sarah said: ‘It was amazing to have the opportunity to play on this amazing stage!”
Joel said: ‘It has been fantastic, an extraordinarily valuable experience for both of us and we feel very privileged to have been given such a wonderful opportunity.”
The Wanamaker Festival is an annual event hosted by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London in honour of its founder Sam Wanamaker.
It features a collection of scenes from Shakespearean and Jacobean drama, in which third year actors from all of the accredited drama schools appear.
