Anonymous artworks go under the hammer

Silent auction for works by new and known artists

WORKS by established designers including Zandra Rhodes will be shown alongside those by up and coming students from the School of Art in a new exhibition at the Holden Gallery.

Zandra created an original design especially for the exhibition, ArtAnon, which runs until Friday, as did fellow artists Alice Kettle, Matthew Harris and Audrey Walker.

On Friday evening all the exhibits will be auctioned to raise funds for the BA Embroidery degree show, although online bidding is already under way.

However bidders won’t know who created the work they are trying to win – as each piece is exhibited anonymously.

Diverse

The postcard sized artworks cover a range of practices including textiles, fine art, 3D and illustration.

Bidding has started online, and the exhibition will culminate in a silent auction on Friday evening between 5pm and 7pm.

Organiser Joy Morris said: “The exhibition illustrates well how embroidery is such a diverse subject. It is great to see both students and artists exhibited together anonymously and we are very grateful for all artists who have donated pieces of their work.”
