Meanwhile, art students launch new exhibition
MA Fine Art graduates featured at Castlefield Gallery
FIVE Manchester School of Art graduates will feature in the first of a new series of exhibitions at the Castlefield Gallery.
Meanwhile See This is the first of the new “Launch Pad” exhibitions which will showcase the work of MMU MA Fine Art graduates and Castlefield Gallery associate members.
The exhibition, which opens tomorrow, Friday, October 19th, will feature the work of Nina Chua, Tiago Duarte, Nicola Ellis, Shona Harrison and Ana Rosa Hopkins.
Earlier this year, Ana Rosa won the £1,000 neo:artprize for her collection of recycled bowls made from glass smashed during the Manchester riots.
Launch Pads are short exhibitions or performances that punctuate Castlefield Gallery’s main programme providing artists with the opportunity to use the space as a test bed for production, display and consumption of contemporary art.
Similarities and differences
It is planned that following this launch event there will be four Launch Pad exhibitions each year, one of which will be dedicated to the work of MA Fine Art students.
The artists said: “The similarities between our practices are as significant as the characteristics that separate them. Inevitably one finds a certain ethos throughout the work related to common art making concerns: material, process and production are elements that link these practices but it is in the healthy articulation of the idiosyncrasies of each piece that the real substance for the art can be found.
Meanwhile See This will run until November 4th at the gallery, in Hewitt Street. Admission is free, for more information visit the Castlefield Gallery website.
