SENIOR Research Fellow Dr Patricia Allmer has received a Philip Leverhulme Prize, one of only 25 awarded in 2010 to outstanding young scholars in recognition of their contribution to their field of study at an international level.

A specialist in art history and theory based in the Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art & Design (MIRIAD), Dr Allmer received the prestigious award valued at £70,000 for her significant contribution to surrealist art. She has published widely on surrealism and art theory, including a monograph on Rene Magritte (Beyond Painting, MUP) in 2009 and her curatorship of the prizewinning exhibition Angels of Anarchy: Women Artists and Surrealism was a huge draw at Manchester Art Gallery in 2010.

Dr Allmer said she was “delighted and honoured” to receive such a highly-regarded peer-reviewed prize which will support her current project - a book about the Amercian photographer lee Miller, and asist in the development of future projects.
