'Tragic Lovers' London date
Drama students star at Shakespeare's Globe
MMU’s very own ‘star-crossed lovers’ are to appear at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.
Danielle Richards and Will Rodell, from the BA Acting degree, are among 40 students from leading acting schools honoured with performing scenes from Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
The pair will make their bows on the world’s most famous ‘Elizabethan stage’ during the Sam Wanamaker Festival on March 21.
Will, 23, and Danielle, 22 are well-versed in Shakespeare having starred as Romeo and Juliet in the MMU production at the Capitol Theatre.
Amazing
Danielle, from Sussex, has appeared in three professional plays and has two award nominations, including winning the Alan Strong Award.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to perform at this magical theatre,” she said.
Will said: “I’m thrilled about the prospect of performing at the globe. It’s not everyday you get chance to perform at such an amazing and historic theatre.”
The couple will perform a scene from ‘Tis a Pity She’s a Whore’ by John Ford.
The Sam Wanamaker Festival is held annually in honour of the American actor who started the project to rebuild Shakespeare’s Globe on the banks of the Thames.
Meanwhile, five second-years are appearing in 1984 at the Royal Exchange, Manchester until March 27.
