Professor Maureen Wayman OBE
MMU's pride in colleague
Professor Maureen Wayman, former Dean of Art and Design, has received an OBE in the New Year Honours List.
Maureen, who led the Faculty for six years and was a major player in the creative industries, was awarded the honour for services to local and national Higher Education.
A tireless contributor to textiles education and skills, Maureen joined MMU in 1993 as Head of Textiles and Fashion and co-founded the North West Textile Forum.
In recognition of her contribution to art and design education, she was invited to become a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Design Council role
Her most recent work includes contributions to two major projects on skills and entrepreneurship in the creative industries, and was recently the universities representative on the Design Blueprint Group which works with the Design Council’s Industry Plan for future skills development in design.
And she laid the foundations of a new £30 million Faculty investment programme to provide world-class facilities for digital artists and designers, including an Arts Lab and Media Lab.
Maureen retired as Dean of Faculty in summer of 2009.
Her successor Professor David Crow said: “We are of course very proud of this wonderful achievement and the recognition it gives to Maureen’s career and her contribution to Art and Design nationally.”
