Christmas tree proves a smash
Student design goes on display in Manchester hotel
A Christmas tree designed by three first-year Interior Design students has gone on display at the City Inn Hotel in Manchester.
James Bradshaw (20), Scott Jones (20), and Nathan Knowles (18) won the hotel chain’s annual competition to design and construct the centre-piece of their Christmas decorations.
Pyramid of wine glasses
Students were asked to consider the cool, light and contemporary environment of the hotel when planning their Christmas tree design and given a budget of £1,000 to buy materials to turn their ideas into a reality.
The trio’s winning tree design features a pyramid structure built using wine glasses and illuminated from the inside.
Fresh and innovative
Stewart Davies, General Manager at City Inn Manchester and competition judge, comments: “We chose this design as the winner as felt it was fresh and innovative as well as offering a striking and original welcome to our hotel.
He continues: “It’s fantastic that through this competition we are able to connect with the next generation of designers at MMU.”
The beautiful and unique tree is now the stunning focal point of the hotel entrance.
