TWO Manchester Metropolitan University students reached the final of the North West Designer of the Year.

Sarah Gallagher, 22, who finished third, was joined by 23-year-old Naomi Jackson in the shortlist of ten for the prestigious fashion award.

The BA Fashion graduates were immediately courted by the media after being selected for the final at Manchester’s Triangle Shopping Centre on September 18.

Naomi, from Middleton, appeared in the Manchester Evening News and Sarah appeared on the city’s Channel M to talk about her fashion designs.

Third-placed Sarah, who attended the same school as Vivienne Westwood in Glossop, said: “I thought we could have won but it was a great experience. I’ve got a couple of interviews on the back of this exposure.”

Naomi, who hopes to start her own fashion label, agreed: “The designer industry is so difficult to break, but I’m confident my collection will make the grade and get me known in the industry.”

Both students showed at London Graduate Fashion Week earlier in 2008.
