Student chosen for Royal Academy of Arts
Nicola's introspective works
A FINE ART undergraduate has won a place at the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts after winning a prestigious prize.
Nicola Jarvis, a second-year on the BA (Hons) Fine Art specialising in print-making, was selected to exhibit after winning a British Institution Award for her drawing The Metamorphosis of Nikki Jarvis.
The picture, a self-portrait, has since been bought by a private collector.
“It was a deep study, fishing through the physical layers of myself to access the intangible me below the surface, but it was exhilarating to do, and a very important investment of my time,” Nicola said.
Vibrant course of study
A mature student who had her own business producing embroidered objects to commission, Nicola said: “At first I was apprehensive about being an ‘old student’(!) but it was great being around the younger students. There’s a real vibrancy to the Fine Art course.”
The British Institute Awards, established in 1805 and valued at £1,000, are awarded for promoting the fine arts in the UK to encourage the scholarship.
