MMU is top of the Art Schools once again after scooping six awards at New Designers 2006.

Graduates in furniture, textiles and ceramics were judged ‘Best in Britain’ at the annual London showcase of the best graduate art and design talent.

New Designers (June 29-July 9) was opened by the Chancellor Rt Hon Gordon Brown with leading industry figures picking winners from the 2,000 dynamic graduates showing work.

Fresh from the massive Manchester Degree Shows (June 16-21) which attracted 80,000 art-lovers to MMU, selected students went to London and came home with more awards than any other art college.

Three-dimensional design

Richard Sweeney, Bethan Worthington and Audrey Hayes from BA Three Dimensional Design won the DKNY Award, the Contemporary Applied Arts Award and the Atelier Award respectively. Bethan and Audrey graduated in 2005 but stayed at MMU to compete their one-year Batchelor of Design.

Another three-dimensional design graduate from 2005 Rachel Holian also showed, winning the Giftware Association Award.

Nadine Thompson and Philippa Barnett from BA Textiles scooped the Harlequin Award and the Metropolitan Works Award for their superb clothing and wallpaper.
