Graduates job success
Fewer out of work
ART and Design graduates are enjoying more success than ever in the job market, according to the latest figures from MMU Careers Service.
Several courses produced 100% employment rates last year – highlighting the relevancy of MMU courses and the high calibre of our graduates.
Analysis of graduates from Design and Art Direction, Photography, Interior Design, Architecture, Film and Media and History of Art and Design courses, showed all graduates had secured work or study (or both) within six months of graduating.
Other courses with less than 5% unemployment rate include Textiles, Embroidery and Three-Dimensional Design.
Design and Art Direction, which leads many to successful careers in the advertising industry, registered no graduates out of work out of 52 graduates in 2004 with 32 in paid work, 3 freelancing, 4 in full-time study, 9 in a combination of work and study, 2 not available for work or study, none unemployed and 2 other.
Out of 530 Art and Design graduates, 468 (88%) were in work or study with 29 (5%) unemployed, 21 (4%) not available for work or study and 11 (2%) others.
A Careers Service spokesman said: “These are excellent figures because nationally, art and design graduates struggle to apply their learning to the work place.
“Students at MMU are reaping the experience of a teaching body with strong art world connections who keep their teaching relevant to life after university.”
A high proportion (12-15%) of graduates go onto further study with many opportunities at MMU’s postgraduate art and design programmes. See http://www.miriad.mmu.ac.uk
