Hat-trick of awards for designers

MMU students have scooped three major awards at London Graduate Fashion Week.

Aitor Throup, Lee Foster and Sarah Easom won three out of twelve awards last night at the catwalk event in Battersea Park.

Aitor, from Burnley, won the Portfolio Award. Sarah, from Leek, took the Colour Award and Lee from Bollington in Cheshire scooped the award for Best Illustration.

Previous award winners have become hot property in the fashion business and include such celebrities as John Galliano and Stella McCartney.

Around 500 students and 20 fashion colleges took part in the annual talent showcase with MMU impressing over rival colleges in London.

Fashion course leader Alison Welsh said: “This is our best result ever. Congratulations to Aitor, Lee and Sarah and all 25 MMU students who take a great deal from this experience.

“There will be a few heading for top jobs that’s certain.”
