MMU graduate actress Rachel Isaac is celebrating after TV sitcom The Office won best comedy at the Golden Globes yesterday.
Rachel, who plays flirty Welsh girl Trudy in the award-winning series, studied Theatre Arts (Acting) at Manchester Metropolitan from 1996-1999.
The Office scooped two Golden Globes – Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actor for Ricky Gervais, the series’ co-creator –the most successful return ever for a British comedy sitcom.
Rachel, from Maesteg, south Wales, learned her trade at MMU’s School of Theatre appearing in straight and comedy productions at the University’s own Capitol Theatre.
Course leader Niamh Dowling reckons the part of Trudy was “perfect” for Rachel who she describes as “outgoing and bubbly, comedienne” and “highly motivated”.
Since leaving MMU, the 29-year-old has appeared in ITV’s I Saw You with Fay Ripley and BBC’s Tales from Pleasure Beach. She also earned a part in Greek tragedy Medea with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Really Useful Company which earned rave reviews in New York.
Isaac made her mark in The Office as the girl who got hideously drunk on her birthday, was in all kinds of trouble with a sex toy, and was found in a compromising situation with the boss’s best friend in a pub car park.
