Healey at The Holden Gallery

Acclaimed artist drops in

AN ARTIST who won The Queen’s Award for Industry in the 1970s exhibits his latest work at Manchester Metropolitan University’s Holden Gallery from tomorrow, November 6 until the 28th.

South African born Deryck Healey made his name in the 1960 as a textile and print designer after graduating from the School of Art, Manchester, part of Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 1974 his design consultancy DHI won The Queen’s Award for Industry for export achievement and services to the textiles industry.

Most of Healey’s recent work has been fine art and this latest exhibition features sculpture, painting and digital prints.

In 1996 he completed a 20-metre sculpture in the Bridgewater Hall, celebrating Manchester’s art and industry. A collection of his ‘Palladio’ range of wallpapers is held in the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester.
