Prestigious RSA prize for textile student

Prize-winning textile designer Chloe Holt will have work featured on BBC’s Changing Rooms series later this year.

The 22-year-old Manchester Metropolitan University student is enjoying a bumper year – having just achieved a first-class honours degree and after winning a prestigious national award – the Fashion Fabric Prize from the Royal Society for the Advancement of Arts.

Later this year, a collection of her cushions and curtains for a Victoria terrace house, will be televised on Changing Rooms. In line with the brief to produce traditional furnishings with a modern take, Chloe used muted colours of blues and greens that not only look natural and organic – they glow in the dark!

Other commissions include designs for Liz Claibourne and Fang in New York and some of her artwork was bought by Crown Wallcoverings.

While a student on MMU’s BA (Hons) Textiles degree course, Chloe developed her own style of working – producing paintings and then translating them onto fabric. Her degree collection of “sophisticated, high end” fabrics and garments for the catwalk are influenced by Paul Klee and David Hockney.

Chloe, from Chester, said: “My work is inspired by landscape and personal memories of travel, beautiful places and beautiful surfaces.”

Her ambition is to set up an art gallery to exhibit her and other’s works of ‘textile painting’.
