A String Section – Reckless Sleepers

Since 2010, Leen Dewilde of Reckless Sleepers (UK/BE) has been destroying things, smashing cups, breaking down walls, cutting up furniture. A String Section follows the pattern, with a simple set of four chairs, four women and four saws.

Perhaps as a response to what is going on, inside or outside, the performers saw at the chairs they are sitting on. In doing so it seems their choice to undermine their own stability, to opt for precarity over comfort, and to find the grace, and satisfaction, in destruction as a creative act.
