Talk #140

Ciarrai MacCormac

Ciarraí MacCormac is a Belfast based artist, originally from Co.Antrim. Graduating with a BA in Fine Art from Bath School of Art and Design in 2014. She is a Co-Director and studio holder at Platform Arts, Belfast and is currently the first Freelands Studio Fellow for Belfast School of Art 2023-2024.

Her work centers on a highly attuned bearing toward the materiality of paint, engaging specifically with what she calls ‘paint skins’, her works challenge the perceptions of making, function and how painting can exist. The skins of paint have a performative quality, transitory state and a continuous production of new images. This broader sensitivity of reconfiguration and chance are at the forefront of making.

Upcoming exhibitions include a solo show, After the fact, Ulster University, February 2024, Belfast and the group show Freelands Fellows, Freelands Foundation, April 2024, London.
