Reading the Design Council Slide Collection

John Davis, curator of Projecting British Design, currently on show at MMU Special Collections, will talk about the subject of the exhibition – the Design Council Slide Collection.  He will discuss the significance of the collection as a visual archive of the Design Council/Council of Industrial Design, locating that organisation within the wider contexts of the design reform movement and the cultural politics of taste in the mid 20th century.

John will also explain why the exhibition highlights and celebrates the materiality of the collection, relating this to contemporary cultural and academic trends, in particular the current ‘analogue renaissance’.
